Gateway Donating Books to Schools During Covid-19
Co-President's Message
Message from the Co-Presidents:
Dear Gateway Friends, If we have learned one thing this past 7 weeks it is that life as we know it can change dramatically and quickly. We hope our members and friends still in the classroom are coping and finding success with virtual and distance learning. Canceling school for the remainder of the year is daunting. Not seeing your students gives a feeling of shock and sorrow. Personal contact is such an important bond between teacher and student. We hope your “virtual contact” will ease some of the anxiety you and your students feel. It has been amazing how many children’s authors are giving permission to use their books in your lessons. And some authors are on digital platforms reading their books and interacting with children. We hope you can take advantage of these literacy opportunities and be sure to check out the distance learning resources on the Gateway and CRA websites. So, until we can meet again we wish you well. Take Flight…Read. Mark your calendars now to attend the California Reading Association Literacy Conference, November 13 – 14, 2020 at the McClellan Conference Center near Sacramento. Keynote speakers include Jan Richardson and Tanny McGregor. Youtube sensation Gerry Brooks will speak at the Saturday luncheon and the CYRM/Eureka celebration will be held Saturday evening. Be sure to register and make hotel reservations soon. Sincerely, Paula Aja and Carla Peterson Gateway Co-Presidents |
